West Ham vs Wolves – Match preview and team news

West Ham United welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to the London Stadium on Friday for a pivotal survival clash.

The Hammers sit 18th in the Premier League after a recent loss to Aston Villa. Nuno Espírito Santo’s side also suffered a heartbreaking FA Cup exit against Leeds United last weekend. However, they remain just one point from safety. Significantly, West Ham have won their last five home league meetings against Wolves.

Wolves arrive in East London sitting at the bottom of the table but enjoying a recent resurgence. Rob Edwards’ men have only lost four of their last 13 matches. They recently secured impressive victories over Aston Villa and Liverpool at Molineux.

Notably, only the top three sides have conceded fewer goals than Wolves since January. They now aim to complete their first league double over the Hammers since 2020.

Team news

West Ham United

Nuno Espírito Santo expects to welcome back Crysencio Summerville and Jean-Clair Todibo from calf injuries. Callum Wilson is also fighting to be available to lead the line tonight. Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Mads Hermansen return to the matchday squad following recent absences. However, goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski remains sidelined with a back problem.

Wolves

Rob Edwards manages a nearly full-strength squad for this vital trip to the capital. Matt Doherty will miss the match due to a minor niggle. Sam Johnstone is also out with a shoulder injury that could end his season. Aside from these two, the Old Gold have no new injury concerns.

Form

West Ham United

The Hammers have proved difficult to beat at home, losing just one of their last six league games. They have collected seven points at the London Stadium during this period. Notably, set-piece defending remains a major concern for Nuno’s side. They have conceded 17 goals from dead-ball situations this term. Only one side has ever conceded more in a single campaign.

Wolves

Wolves have scored two goals in each of their last three Premier League matches. This recent clinical edge has yielded seven points from a possible nine. Notably, the team has shown improved defensive discipline under Rob Edwards. They have kept things tight, conceding only 15 goals in their last 13 outings.

Predicted lineups

West Ham United Predicted XI (4-3-3): Hermansen; Wan-Bissaka, Mavropanos, Disasi, Diouf; Fernandes, Magassa, Soucek; Bowen, Pablo, Castellanos

Wolves Predicted XI (3-5-2): Sa; Mosquera, S. Bueno, Krejci; Tchatchoua, J. Gomes, Andre, Mane, H. Bueno; Armstrong, Arokodare
