Phil Foden makes honest admission as Man City thrash Palace

Phil Foden of Man City celebrates scoring his team's second goal during the Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Manchester City at Selhurst Park on December 14, 2025 in London, England.

Phil Foden admits that he was far from his best in the first half of Man City’s dominant win over Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

The midfielder scored either side of an Erling Haaland brace as City secured a 3-0 win at Selhurst Park on Sunday.

Haaland opened the scoring with a header from a Matheus Nunes cross towards the end of the first half.

Rayan Cherki did brilliant work before releasing Foden, who drove the ball into the bottom corner in the 69th minute. Haaland grabbed his second late on from the penalty spot.

Foden has now scored six goals in his last four Premier League appearances for City, but the England international says he was careless with the ball in the opening half. However, he promised there is more to come from him amid a stellar run of form.

“Every time I have been here it has been such a challenge,” he told BBC Match of the Day. “Close game, a lot of duals have to be won. It is scrappy at times. Second half was much better than the first and that was the key.

“Really happy with the goal at the right time. It just made us a little bit more relaxed. It was a crucial goal at a crucial time. I’ve been in good form, scoring a lot recently and long may it continue.

“In the first half I gave a lot of balls away and I was trying to do too much with it. Against Palace you need to relax and play extra passes. That is the standard I set myself and so does the manager [Pep Guardiola]. He knows there is more to come from me.”
