Gabriel Martinelli is weighing up his Arsenal future, with the Brazilian winger now open to a move away this summer.
The development, reported by The Times, comes as the Gunners press ahead with plans to sign a new left-sided forward.
It marks a shift in his thinking. Martinelli had earlier been determined to fight for his place, but growing interest from abroad has prompted him to reconsider. A switch to the continent is among the options on his mind.
Martinelli open to Arsenal exit amid interest from abroad
Arsenal’s own stance has fuelled the speculation. Mikel Arteta wants more consistent output from the left flank, a priority that has left Martinelli’s role under threat. The club have explored several targets to upgrade the position.
His contract situation adds urgency. Martinelli has one year left on his deal, plus an option for a further 12 months. That timeline means this summer represents Arsenal’s best chance to command a sizeable fee rather than risk losing value.
The numbers point to a healthy return. Reports suggest Arsenal would want in the region of £45m to £50m, and Martinelli would fetch more than fellow winger Leandro Trossard if sold. Barcelona and clubs in Saudi Arabia have been credited with interest.
His struggles last season explain the uncertainty. After a bright start to his Arsenal career, the 24-year-old saw his goals and assists dip, slipping down the pecking order under Arteta. Injuries did not help his cause.
