Manchester United 'ready to spend €200m' on midfield revamp

Manchester United are ready to spend €200M (£175m) this summer to revamp their midfield and find a successor for Casemiro.

Casemiro will depart the club at the end of the campaign when his contract expires, with a decision made not to renew the veteran’s deal at Old Trafford.

Manchester United are assessing the market for potential replacements and AS have claimed the club are prepared to spend big on a position viewed as integral to their development.

The focus will be a defensive midfielder to complement Kobbie Mainoo, reintegrated back into the side following Ruben Amorim’s exit, and Bruno Fernandes.

According to the report, the Red Devils have five Premier League-based players high on their shortlist. After the success of signing Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo from divisional rivals last summer, United are ready to move for more Premier League players who can hit the ground running.

Among the names under consideration are Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali, with Manchester United monitoring the situation at Newcastle.

The Magpies look likely to miss out on Champions League qualification, which could aid pursuits of two players currently deemed ‘indispensable’ at St James’ Park.

Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson is considered the ‘most logical’ signing, though United face competition from Manchester City for the England midfielder.

Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton is also on the shortlist, alongside Wolves’ Joao Gomes. The latter is viewed as a potential back-up plan, should deals for top targets fail.
