Liverpool dealt major blow ahead of Chelsea and Man Utd clashes

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker leaves the pitch following an injury during the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 League Phase MD2 match between Galatasaray A.S. and Liverpool FC at Ali Sami Yen Spor Kompleksi on September 30, 2025 in Istanbul, Turkey.

Liverpool have been dealt a huge blow ahead of key games against Chelsea and Man Utd as the window for Alisson Becker’s potential return from injury was revealed.

The goalkeeper was forced off the pitch during the Reds’ 1-0 defeat to Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday after hurting himself while saving a shot from Victor Osimhen.

The Brazil international immediately called for the bench after going down and was replaced by Giorgi Mamardashvili in the 56th minute.

Liverpool dealt Alisson injury blow

The Athletic report that Alisson could be out for up to six weeks after injuring his hamstring, meaning he may not return until after the November international break.

It’s claimed that the 33-year-old went for a scan on Thursday and Liverpool expect a full prognosis within the next two days. The club have not confirmed a possible return date.

Mamardashvili is in line to make his Premier League debut after Arne Slot confirmed that Alisson will definitely miss this Saturday’s clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

“If my player is on the floor, nine out of 10 times I fear the worst and with the worst I mean that he cannot continue,” Slot said.

“It’s never positive if you go off like this. You can be sure he is not playing Saturday.”

Alisson will also be sidelined for Man Utd’s visit to Anfield next week and the trip to Eintracht Frankfurt, and could potentially sit out against Brentford, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Real Madrid and Manchester City.

The former AS Roma player missed ten games last season with a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, Hugo Ekitike is a doubt to face Chelsea after being subbed off with an injury concern on Tuesday. He will be assessed before a decision is made on his possible involvement.

“He felt something when he had to reach for the ball,” Slot revealed afterwards. “After the game, that’s always the difficult thing with these moments.

“Sometimes you feel, it’s not too bad. But when you walk around, it’s something different – or if you have to sprint, and have to take a shot on target.

“He said he couldn’t continue, so we had to take him off. Let’s see how he is for the weekend.”
