Leeds United XI vs Liverpool – Predicted lineup and team news

Leeds United travel to Anfield on New Year’s Day, aiming to extend an impressive five-game unbeaten run.

Currently, Daniel Farke’s men sit seven points clear of the drop zone. Specifically, they occupy 15th place after a prolific December. Despite being historical underdogs here, the Whites feel full of confidence. This follows their 3-3 draw with the champions earlier this season.

Now, the focus shifts to defensive solidity. Crucially, the Whites must replace an “ever-present” mainstay in their backline. However, Leeds believe they can shock Anfield. Indeed, with the in-form Dominic Calvert-Lewin, they hope to replicate their 2022 heroics.

Unfortunately, Daniel Farke confirmed a major defensive blow this week. Specifically, an ankle ligament injury rules out Joe Rodon for up to three weeks. Notably, Rodon had not missed a league match since October 2023. Now, he joins Daniel James and Sean Longstaff on the sidelines. Consequently, Farke may look to Sebastiaan Bornauw or veteran Sam Byram. Likely, one of them will partner Pascal Struijk in a reshuffled back four.

On a brighter note, Lukas Nmecha returns fully to the fold. Previously, he made a successful comeback as a substitute last weekend. Up front, the Whites will lean heavily on Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Impressively, the striker bids to score in his sixth consecutive top-flight game. Finally, captain Ethan Ampadu and Jayden Bogle start the year on thin ice. Specifically, they sit just one booking away from a suspension.
