Konate rallies Liverpool for run-in after Champions League exit

Ibrahima Konate has called on Liverpool to go ‘all in’ in pursuit of Champions League qualification.

Liverpool were eliminated from the Champions League on Tuesday night after defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield. Ousmane Dembele scored twice as the holders secured a 2-0 win, and 4-0 aggregate success, to progress to the last four.

The result marked a disappointing end to Liverpool’s European campaign and ended hopes of a major trophy this season. It continues a challenging campaign for Arne Slot’s side, who have struggled to replicate the levels of last season’s Premier League title-winning displays.

Attention now turns to ensuring the club book a place in next season’s Champions League. Liverpool are currently fifth in the Premier League table, ahead of this weekend’s historic first-ever Merseyside Derby against Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Konate has rallied the Reds for the run-in and said Champions League football is ‘the minimum standard’ his side expect.

“For sure, I think it’s the minimum standard for Liverpool to play in the Champions League,” Konate said.

“We have six games left and during these six games, we have to go all in. We know how difficult the Premier League is but we have to go all in to be in the Champions League next season again”
