Crystal Palace striker Jean Philippe Mateta will not join AC Milan on deadline day after medical examinations.
The Italian side have informed Crystal Palace that the club do not wish to proceed with the signing of Mateta, having earlier agreed a fee in the region of €30m.
The France international had been keen to leave Palace this month, amid interest from Milan, Juventus and Aston Villa. However, he now looks set for disappointment after Milan withdrew their bid, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The collapse of the deal could complicate Crystal Palace’s pursuit of Jorgen Strand Larsen. The Eagles had lined up the Norway international as a replacement for Mateta, for a fee worth in the region of £48m.
According to David Ornstein, of The Athletic, the deal for Strand Larsen remains on – as things stand. There is other interest in Mateta and a loan exit is possible before the 7pm deadline. Clubs in Saudi Arabia and the Premier League have been linked.
