Guehi discusses Crystal Palace’s Champions League hopes

Marc Guehi has said he is obsessed with improving both as a player and with Crystal Palace after the Eagles climbed into the Premier League’s top four.

Palace secured a 2-0 win at winless Wolves on Saturday, as second-half goals from Daniel Munoz and Yeremy Pino spoiled Rob Edwards’ firs game in charge of the home side.

The win lifted Palace into the Champions League places and secured a third consecutive clean sheet. After winning the club’s first-ever major trophy with FA Cup success last season, the South Londoners now have their sights set on the Champions League.

Guehi insisted the club’s current position is ‘irrelevant’ given the amount of football still to be played, but underlined both his personal and team ambition to continue improving.

Speaking to Match of the Day about Palace’s top-four hopes, the England defender said: “The position is irrelevant at this stage of the season to be honest. It’s more important how we played. It was a really good performance from everyone.

“I think after last season the goal is to hopefully win another trophy, and try to surpass where we finished in the table last season. But I think right now we’re trying to maintain focus and take every game step by step.

“My obsession is to get better. My obsession is also this team and to do well for my team and my team-mates. I’m incredibly grateful to be playing football. Even when I missed one game last week it hurts. I’m still miles away from where I want to be so I’m grateful to my team-mates for pushing me.

“There’s a genuine belief with the fans and everyone in the club that we can do really well in games.”
