Jeremy Doku is keen to improve his goal output at Manchester City and has set his sights on following the example of Raheem Sterling.
Doku scored his third goal in two games with a stunning strike in City’s 3-0 win over Brentford on Saturday evening. The Belgium international’s opener at the Etihad following two goals in Monday’s thrilling 3-3 draw at Everton.
However, Doku has scored only five goals in the Premier League this season and it’s an area of his game he is determined to improve.
The 23-year-old has scored a series of spectacular strikes but has said he wants to add ‘tap-ins’ to his game. He used the example of former City star Sterling as a player whose numbers grew by getting into better goalscoring positions.
“There is one thing; when I look at my goals, all the goals this season, I don’t see one tap-in. And when I look at, for example, Raheem Sterling and his seasons at Manchester City, all the tap-ins that he scored, at least five, six, seven a season,” he said to Sky Sports.
“When I look at my goals, it’s all top goals, don’t get me wrong, but I want to score also those goals where I just tap-in, second post, run in and tap-in, and it just adds more goals to my account. That’s really the thing that I need to work on.
“These goals will come, they’ll be there every time, but if I add easy goals, you have to be there – that’s the aspect I want to work on. To not only stay on the side and do my actions and score those types of goals, but also the easy tap-ins…”
