Mikel Arteta has insisted Arsenal will travel to Manchester City with the aim to win this weekend.
Arsenal travel to second-placed Manchester City in a definitive clash in this season’s title race. The Gunners are six points clear of the Citizens, having played a game more, with the title race in the balance.
A win would put Arsenal within touching distance of a first Premier League crown in 22 years. However, a draw would leave the North Londoners in an advantageous position for the run-in.
Despite that, Arteta has said his team ‘are not going to spend one second’ thinking about settling for a draw. He is determined for Arsenal to seize a ‘big opportunity’ at the Etihad.
Asked about the importance of the game, Arteta said at his pre-match press conference: “It is certainly the most important one because it is the next one.
“We have earned the right to be in this position and to be challenging and with an opportunity to win against arguably the best team and best manager this league has ever seen and that is a huge privilege.
“We see this as a big opportunity for us. We are not going to spend one second talking about that (playing for a draw). We prepare every game to win that is why we are where we are and we are going to continue to do the same.
“There are six games to go. Obviously it is a really important one for both teams.
“It will incline the balance a little bit but winning a game in the Premier League is so tough for everybody. After this one there are some very tough matches for all of us and we will have to wait and continue whatever happens.”
