Sometimes you need to cut out men — Bolaji Ogunmola

By Ayo Onikoyi
Nollywood actress Bolaji Ogunmola has advised women to sometimes put relationships aside and focus on building their lives, noting that there is no perfect balance when pursuing personal goals.
Ogunmola stated this in an interview with Cyril Okoi, where she spoke about the sacrifices required to build a successful career and her approach to filmmaking.
According to the actress, women should not feel pressured to maintain every relationship while trying to establish themselves.
“Don’t let them lie to you. There is no balance when you are building. Sometimes you need to cut out men and focus on your life,” she said.
Ogunmola also stressed the importance of excellence in her work, noting that she does not believe in taking on projects without giving them her best.
“I don’t think I should do anything and not do it well. It’s not fair on the people that will pay to watch it or tune in to watch it,” she said.
Reflecting on what filmmaking has taught her, the actress said she has come to understand that the work extends beyond her individual career.
“One lesson I have learnt from making movies is that it’s bigger than me. It’s a privilege to make films because it’s going to outlive me,” Ogunmola said.
She added that viewing filmmaking as something that will survive beyond her has made her approach the craft with greater humility.
“So when I approach it like that, I am more humbled that I am making something that is going to outlive me,” she said.
