Transfer: Isak left out of Newcastle’s preseason clash

Newcastle United striker, Alexander Isak, was left out of the team that suffered a 4-0 thrashing in the hands of Celtic due to speculations surrounding his future.

Isak had travelled for the game in Glasgow, but was sent home by manager Eddie Howe.

The Swede has been linked with Liverpool in the past week, with reports claiming the Premier League champions are ready to break the British transfer record to sign him.

The Reds have since turned their attention to Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike, who Newcastle had also been targeting.

After the game against Celtic, Howe said about Isak: “I chose to send him home.

“The last thing Alex wants if he is not playing is to be sat in the stand and under that scrutiny, then if he wasn’t going to play today, we mutually agreed he shouldn’t be here.

“It was my decision. He travelled back to Glasgow with us, but I decided to send him home due to the speculation around him.”
