Arne Slot says that Mo Salah is “always in my mind” to start for Liverpool after the winger was benched for a second consecutive Premier League game this week.

The 33-year-old was dropped from the starting lineup for last weekend’s 2-0 win at West Ham United and was named on the bench again for Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland at Anfield.

After losing his place in the team, a fresh report has linked Salah with a move away. The Telegraph claim that the Saudi Pro League are willing to fund a deal should he wish to leave Liverpool.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s trip to Elland Road for a meeting with Leeds United, Slot insisted that Salah remains a part of his plans and is always in contention to start for the Reds.

“Every player is in my mind to start because we have so many good players,” said Slot. “Mo has been an exceptional player for us. He is always in my mind to start or come in.

“He’s been so influential for this club and for me and for his team-mates for six or seven years. It’s normal that if I don’t play players who just came to the club we talk about it, so it’s completely normal that people talk about it when he isn’t playing.”

Asked if he understands the talk around Salah being benched, Slot replied: “Of course, and he deserves that because of the player he has been for this club and for his team-mates for six or seven years. It’s completely normal.

“If I don’t play players I have just brought to the club we are already talking about it so then it is completely normal that people talk about it when he isn’t playing.”
