The National President, Nigerian Red Cross Society, Prince Oluyemisi Adeaga has launched 47 shelters built for victims of the Mokwa flood disaster that claimed over 200 lives and destroyed property in Niger State.

Adeaga while unveiling the projects in Mokwa, said the shelters, equipped with boreholes, toilets and bathrooms, would provide dignity, safety and comfort to affected families.

He noted that the shelters were constructed to provide safe accommodation for displaced families in line with Red Cross Society’s mission to alleviate human suffering and uphold shared humanity.

“We are not just in Mokwa to respond to a disaster, but to uphold our shared humanity. Suffering anywhere is a call to action everywhere,” he said.

Also, 500 dignity kits for women and girls, and 500 non-food item packages, were distributed to affected persons.

Adeaga emphasized that the Society’s efforts goes beyond immediate response as it also focuses on mitigating future disaster through hygiene promotion, market sensitization, focus group discussions, community meetings, flood preparedness simulations, and first aid trainings.

He called on individuals and groups to continue supporting humanitarian actions to make the world a better place for all.
