‘I could be wrong’ – Glasner comments on Johnson and Guehi transfer reports

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner smiles prior to the Premier League match between Crystal Palace FC and Chelsea FC at Selhurst Park on January 04, 2025 in London, England.

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner says “everything is possible” in the January transfer window as he remained tight-lipped on Brennan Johnson and Marc Guehi.

The Eagles have reportedly agreed a £35 million deal with Tottenham Hotspur to sign Johnson next month after talks between the two clubs advanced quickly.

The player, though, still has to make a decision on his future, with Bournemouth one of a few clubs said to be interested in signing him.

Speaking ahead of Thursday’s clash with Fulham at home on New Year’s Day, Glasner was asked if he is confident of getting the deal over the line.

“Let’s see what happens,” he answered. “Tomorrow starts the next crazy month in football. And I don’t know, I’ve experienced so many different situations.

“The next 31 days will be everything is possible, like always, and everything I say today might be wrong in two days.

“And I think most of what I say today will be definitely wrong by the end of the transfer window, because I don’t know, and that’s why I don’t really care about it, especially I don’t want to talk about it in public.

“Everything I say today might be wrong. That’s why the best thing is say nothing, and we’re concentrating on the team that is available, that should win, will give everything to win tomorrow against Fulham.”

Guehi has been linked with a move away in January as he enters the final six months of his contract. The centre-back came close to leaving Selhurst Park on Deadline Day of last summer, but his move to Liverpool fell through.

Asked if Palace are equipped to deal with a potential repeat of that drama, Glasner responded: “You will ask me all these questions again and again and again. I need to find one answer. I will always tell you the same, as long as I don’t know anything else.

“Because, believe me, if I knew something. I would tell you. So I don’t know what’s going on. I don’t know what will happen with Marc [Guehi]. I don’t know what will happen with new players, and I don’t know what will happen with JP [Jean-Philippe Mateta], I don’t know anything.”
