FIFA Officially Names Chelsea First-Ever Club World Cup Champions After Historic Win

FIFA has formally recognised Chelsea Football Club as the inaugural Club World Cup champions, a major step after their victory in the recently expanded FIFA Club World Cup.

With this classification, the previous victors’ standing is redefined, and they will now be known as “FIFA Intercontinental Champions” for the next four years.

Chelsea won this historic trophy in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final in New Jersey, defeating French champions Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in a one-sided final game.

Cole Palmer finished with a fantastic effort that earned him the Player of the Tournament award, scoring two goals and providing an assist to help the team win.

Following its 2021 victory in the competition under its previous configuration, Chelsea is winning the Club World Cup for the second time in the club’s illustrious history.

But as the 2025 competition was the first time the 32-team format was used, FIFA made Chelsea the first side to be recognised as the new winners of the competition.

The Daily Mail now claims that on Saturday night, FIFA posted a social media image of Chelsea raising the trophy with the statement, “The first ever FIFA CWC Champions,” thus confirming the story themselves.
