Nollywood actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli has shared the key to her long lasting 24-year old marriage to Nnamdi Oboli.
In a recent interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, Omoni attributed their successful union to a decision they made before exchanging vows, stating that they eliminated divorce as an option.
“Staying married for over two decades. First things first, you have to decide. It’s a decision. From day one, we decided that divorce was not an option even before we got married,” Omoni revealed.
She asserted that the commitment has helped them navigate the challenges of married life, including their turbulent first year together.
The mother of three further emphasized the importance of forgiveness in a successful marriage, highlighting that the mindset has enabled them to overcome conflicts and strengthen their relationship.
She said, “There’s almost nothing someone can do that you can’t forgive, if you want to forgive. We all have to realise that we’re all sinners.”
The filmmaker revealed that her love story was unconventional, with Nnamdi proposing just two weeks after meeting, and getting married four months later.
Omoni admitted she was young and unsure, but fell in love with the way her husband loved her.
Nnamdi Oboli offered words of wisdom to young couples, stressing the importance of taking responsibility in a marriage.
“Marriage is a responsibility. You don’t go into a marriage expecting it to happen to you. You are the relationship. It’s between two people; you have to make it work,” she advised.
