Tottenham Hotspur eye Juventus’ Bremer as Romero replacement

Tottenham Hotspur eye Juventus' Bremer as Romero replacement

Tottenham Hotspur are exploring a move for Juventus defender Gleison Bremer.

According to Tuttosport, the Brazilian sits at the top of Roberto De Zerbi’s defensive wish list. Talks between the two clubs have already opened.

The context is straightforward. Spurs expect to lose Cristian Romero this summer. The Argentine is tipped to push for an exit once the World Cup ends, leaving a clear gap at centre-back.

Bremer has been identified as the man to fill it. De Zerbi knows him well. The Italian watched Bremer up close in Serie A during his own time at Sassuolo.

That familiarity has made the 29-year-old a priority rather than a passing interest.

The player appears open to the idea as well. At 29, Bremer wants to win and is intrigued by the Premier League.

A reunion with De Zerbi only adds to the appeal. For now, he is watching the talks unfold with genuine interest.

The price is set in black and white. Bremer carries a release clause of €58m (around £49m), valid from 1 July to 10 August.

Any club that wants him must arrive at Juventus’ Continassa base with that sum, or something very close to it, to force a quick agreement.

That is where Tottenham’s wild card comes in. Tuttosport reports Spurs could offer goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario as part of the deal to lower the fee.

Juventus have long admired the Italy international, who would solve their own search between the posts. Such an arrangement might suit both sides neatly.

The wider picture explains Juventus’ willingness to listen. The Bianconeri missed out on the Champions League and must raise funds while rebuilding.

Selling Bremer at his clause price, ideally with Vicario arriving in return, would tick several boxes at once. For Tottenham, it would represent a statement signing.

Replacing Romero with a defender of Bremer’s pedigree would soften a significant loss, and De Zerbi’s backing makes the pursuit one to watch.
