WAFCON 2024: Botswana can upset Super Falcons – Coach Malete
Botswana head coach Alex Malete remains optimistic that his side can pull off a major upset by defeating Nigeria’s Super Falcons in their second group game at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The Mares fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Algeria in their opening match in Casablanca on Sunday.
Nigeria, by contrast, were in imperious form, dispatching Tunisia 3-0 in the opening Group B encounter.
Botswana must avoid defeat against the Super Falcons to maintain any hope of progressing to the quarter-finals.
“We have to be calm and not desperate when we face Nigeria,” Malete told SABC Sports.
“We have to be able to express ourselves in terms of things that we do well. Look at Nigeria as well and see what they do well and see what they struggle with and do our best to use that to our advantage.”
Nigeria defeated Botswana 1-0 in their first-ever meeting at the WAFCON finals during the 2022 edition.
