WAFCON 2024: Babajide dedicates goal against Tunisia to Diogo Jota

Super Falcons forward, Omorinsola Babajide has reacted to his celebration in the team’s 3-0 victory over Tunisia.

Babajide grabbed a goal, and an assist in the Group B encounter played at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium, Casablanca on Sunday.

The former UD Tenerife star set up Asisat Oshoala for Nigeria’s opening goal in the fourth minute, and scored the second in the 45th minute.

The goal was her first for the nine-time African champions from five appearances.

The striker said the goal was a heartfelt tribute to the late Liverpool striker, Diogo Jota, and his brother.

“It was for Diogo Jota and his brother as well. That was like one of his biggest celebrations at the club, especially. We call it the signature celebration really,” Babajide said after the game.

Babajide will face a tough fight to keep her place in the starting line-up when Nigeria take on Botswana in their second group game.

Esther Okoronkwo, who replaced her after the break bagged an assist, and was named Woman of the Match.

Another substitute, Chiwendu Ihezuo was also on target against Tunisia.
