Transfer: De Gea opens up on failed move to Real Madrid
Fiorentina goalkeeper, David de Gea, has said things happen “for a reason” while speaking about his failed move from Manchester United to Real Madrid.
De Gea was set to sign for the LaLiga giants on transfer deadline day in the summer of 2015.
However, the move fell through because the paperwork was not filed in time.
The two clubs ended up throwing blames at each other over the failed move.
“I will speak about all of that when my career is over. When things don’t happen, it’s for a reason,” De Gea told Italian media outlet, Cronache Di Spogliatoio.
“It was close but the transfer wasn’t completed… Personally, it went well because Manchester is my home.”
De Gea departed United as a free agent in the summer of 2023, having made 545 appearances for the Premier League club.
The Spaniard stayed for a year without a club before signing for Fiorentina in 2024.
