Russia vs Nigeria: They play power football – Byshovets compares Super Eagles to Germany
Anatoly Byshovets, a former manager of the Russian national team, has drawn comparison between the national teams of Nigeria and Germany.
The 79-year-old spoke ahead of Russia’s international friendly with Nigeria on Friday in Moscow.
According to him, the Super Eagles remind him of Germany, adding that they play power football.
“I can say as a coach who led the USSR team against Nigeria that this is a team that’s associated with the Germany team, only in an African version,” Byshovets told Sport-Express.
“They [Nigeria] play power football and the winner is the one who wins in single combats.
“I think such experience will be useful for our players [Russia]. The work done by [head coach Valery] Karpin is thankless in terms of waiting for official matches.”
Several key players of the Super Eagles, including including Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze, Ola Aina, Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, will not participate in the encounter.
