NPFL: Rivers United coach Finidi optimistic of opening day win over Remo Stars
Rivers United head coach, Finidi George is targeting a positive start to the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, season, DAILY POST reports.
The Port Harcourt club will take on defending champions Remo Stars in the opening fixture of the season on Friday (today).
The highly anticipated matchday one encounter will hold at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Abeokuta.
Both teams fought hard for the title last season, with Remo Stars claiming the crown for the first time in their history.
Rivers United finished in second position, 10 points adrift of Daniel Ogunmodede’s side.
Finidi is expecting a difficult test but is optimistic his side can start their campaign with a win.
“We’re playing the reigning champions, and so it will be a tough one but being they’re playing away from home we will see how we can capitalize on that advantage to see how we can pull off a surprise victory,” Finidi was quoted by the NPFL media.
