NPFL: Alaekwe seeks fresh challenge after leaving Akwa United
Chijioke Alaekwe has said that he is ready for a new challenge following Akwa United’s relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Alaekwe’s one-year contract with the Promise Keepers elapsed at the end of the 2024-25 NPFL season.
The 27-year old’s impressive run of form for the former NPFL champions was cut short after a shoulder Injury that ruled him out of the season.
He netted five goals in 21 matches for Akwa United.
“My shoulder injury is almost fully healed. I’m grateful to God for the fast recovery rate,” Alaekwe told Completesports.
“Well, I don’t think i will be at Akwa United next season because my contract with the club has expired. I only signed a one-season deal when I joined, so as things stand, I’m a free player.”
