LaLiga: Barcelona gives reasons for removing Ter Stegen as captain
Barcelona have officially removed Marc Andre ter-Stegen as their captain.
The LaLiga champions confirmed this in a statement on Thursday.
According to the club, the decision follows disciplinary proceedings against Ter Stegen.
Barca also announced that current vice-captain, Ronald Araujo, will take over the captain’s armband.
The statement read in part: “Decision follows disciplinary proceedings opened against Marc-André ter Stegen.
“During this period, the duties of first captain will be assumed by the current vice-captain, Ronald Araújo.”
Last month, the Germany international revealed he had undergone surgery on his back.
Ter Stegen also claimed he would be out of action for three months.
His actions have left Barca president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco fuming and ready to take the armband off him.
