Kylian Mbappé surpasses Ronaldo’s goal record at Real Madrid

Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé has surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal tally from his debut season, netting his 34th strike in the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona on Saturday.

Mbappé scored as Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 3-2 in the Copa del Rey final in Seville.

The 26-year-old, who joined Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, has been enjoying a brilliant debut campaign, now statistically surpassing Ronaldo’s first season at the club.

Recall that Ronaldo scored 33 goals in his debut season (2009-10) at Real Madrid following his world-record transfer from Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Mbappé has 34 goals, including his spectacular free-kick against the Blaugrana on Saturday night.

The France captain came off the bench, adding plenty of attacking momentum to Real Madrid’s play.

Mbappé brought Los Blancos level with a clinical free-kick in the 70th minute, making it 1-1 for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, before his teammate Aurélien Tchouaméni gave them the lead seven minutes later.

However, Mbappé now needs just four more goals to overtake Iván Zamorano’s record of the most goals scored in a debut season for Real Madrid.

The Chilean scored 37 goals in the 1992-93 season after joining the club.

Mbappé will now hope to add to his tally when Real Madrid face Celta Vigo in La Liga next Sunday.
