I poured him water, threw away his football – Bright Osayi’s mother recounts

The mother of Bright Osayi-Samuel, the Super Eagles Defender, Mrs Oredola Samuel, on Tuesday, recounted how she poured buckets of water on the Footballer for coming home late during his early days of playing.

DAILY POST reports that the Nigerian International also stated how she threw away his football for the same offence.

Mrs Samuel disclosed this to newsmen during the final of the 2nd edition of the Bright Osayi U-13 Football Tournament at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, Edo State.

The mother of the Fenerbahce defender said the actions she took were geared towards stopping the now Super Eagles star from coming home late at night.

She added that the statement of the former Fenerbahçe player accusing her of throwing away his destiny made her put a final stop to her actions.

According to her, when he (Bright) was small, between the ages of 10 and 13, he used to play football, although he did not go to a football academy.

“Several times I took a bucket of water and poured it on him for staying late at football practice into the early hours of the morning. But, he will still repeat it.

“Mind you, I was not against his playing football, but his coming home late is what I did not like. That was my problem with him. So, I told him to stop coming home late, but, the more I threatened him, the more he did.

“One thing is that he has the energy to play football. So, on that very day, as usual, I took the football away from him and threw it away. His response was, ‘Mummy, you just threw away my future’.

“That night, I went to bed, but I could not sleep, because this boy had never spoken to me that way, and I threw away his future.

“Around 3 am, I went outside and took the ball to him inside the house, and I said to him, ‘Look, I’ve brought your future for you”, she stated.

She, however, said that she is now happy with the achievements of the Nigerian international and that she took the right step on that night by giving his future back to him.

“I am very happy with his achievements in football, he is making me proud. Where people think I am nobody, because of him, they now see me as somebody, all because I did not throw away his destiny that day.

“Imagine if I had left that ball, maybe I would not have been here today. I am now enjoying that future with him,” she stated.

The Ondo-born woman, however, commended the Edo State Governor for the reception given to her son upon arriving at Benin City on Tuesday.
