Brazil and AC Milan legend, Marcos Evangelista de Morais, simply known as Cafu, has told Cristiano Ronaldo he is never the best footballer in history.
Cafu gave his two cents on Ronaldo after the legendary attacker made a bold claim of being the most complete player in the long history of the game.
Cafu, a former Brazilian right-back, acknowledged the fact that the Portuguese is a phenomenon, but placed the likes Diego Maradona, Pelé, Platini, Franz Beckenbauer and Garrincha ahead of the Portuguese football icon.
Ronaldo has not allowed age to slow him down as a footballer as he recently clocked 40.
The former Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus superstar has continued to show his goal-scoring prowess in the Saudi Pro League with Al-Nassr.
He has already hit 900 goals as he chases 1000 career goals, which would set him apart as the only player in history to have achieved the feat.
Speaking in an interview with El Chiringuito reporter, Edu Aguirre, Ronaldo told anyone that cares to know that he is the most complete and best player in football history.
The statement has been making waves in the football community, with some people wondering what the likes of Lionel Messi would say.
Cafu, who won two World Cups with Brazil and is currently Selecao’s most capped player, disagreed with the Al Nassr captain.
Cafu, asked by journalist Randall Vargas if he sees the Portugal captain as the player greatest in history, responded (via Costa Rican outlet La Nacion):
“Cristiano is a phenomenon, but not the best player of all time. If we talk about all time, we have to mention Maradona, Pelé, Platini, Franz Beckenbauer and Garrincha. We are talking about incredible players.
“Cristiano Ronaldo was the best for six or seven years, but in a discussion about the best in history, we must consider footballers who played better than him.”
Ronaldo has made several claims about being the very best.
Speaking with the BBC in 2015, the former Juventus forward asserted that he’s always the best irrespective of what people think.
“In my mind, I’m always the best. I don’t care what people think, what they say,” he stated.
