EPL: What Arne Slot told referee Michael Oliver after red card at Everton
Liverpool manager, Arne Slot, was left bemused after referee Michael Oliver gave him a red card following their 2-2 draw at Everton on Wednesday night.
The Reds appeared to be on the verge of victory, which would have taken them nine points clear of second-placed Arsenal on the Premier League table.
Mohamed Salah had given his team the lead with 17 minutes left at Goodison Park.
But James Tarkowski slammed in a last-gasp equaliser in the eighth minute of injury time to salvage a point for Everton in their final Merseyside derby.
Everton midfielder, Abdoulaye Doucoure, sparked a mass brawl between both sets of players after he goaded the Liverpool fans following the full-time whistle.
Both Doucoure and Curtis Jones were sent off, while Slot was also given a red card after he appeared to shake Oliver’s hand in an aggressive manner.
As soon as Slot released his grip, Oliver reached into his back pocket and brandished the red card.
A second camera caught the Liverpool manager asking the referee, “You gave me a red for that?!”
Liverpool’s assistant coach, Sipke Hulshoff, was also sent off by Oliver in the aftermath of the game.
Slot is now suspended for Sunday’s Premier League match against Wolves at Anfield.
The Dutchman was also prevented from speaking to reporters after the game because of the rules surrounding his red card.
