Nigerian football legend, Sunday Oliseh has revealed why top teams in Europe did not make a summer transfer move for Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen was linked with top Premier League clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal.
The former Lille star was also linked with Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
But, the only concrete offers were from Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal and the Nigeria striker turned them down.
Osimhen has now sealed a permanent €75million transfer to Galatasaray from Napoli after he spent last season on loan at the Turkish champions.
However, in a video recently circulated on social media, Oliseh cited the staggering total financial package required to secure Osimhen’s services as the major reason why top Premier League clubs failed to sign the 26-year-old Nigerian.
“The real price for acquiring and maintaining Osimhen is actually €187m,” Oliseh said as he broke down how Osimhen’s wages alone would cost approximately €112 million over a four-year contract period and the €75 million transfer fee Galatasaray will pay Napoli in a period of 12 months.
“The second part – the wages of Osimhen. It’s at €15m net, that is €28m a year. If you multiply it by four, you are coming to €112million. This has been the major problem for clubs [Premier League clubs] trying to acquire Osimhen.
“Sadly, when it comes to Victor Osimhen’s transfer to Galatasaray, It’s sad to sad to say but I feel he is gone to Galatasaray because the top Premier League clubs did want him now.
“Because if they wanted to, they would’ve made that investment because he is made it clear he wanted to go there.
“Even Drogba solicited for him, Mikel Obi also tried to talk him up into it. But these clubs didn’t go for him, they didn’t wanted him now and that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t want him in the future, but alot depends on him.
“He scored 37 goals last season when you have Manchester United and Arsenal in desperation in need of a striker.”
