EPL: ‘It’s wrong to single him out’ – Schmeichel defends Man Utd star
Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has defended goalkeeper Andre Onana amid criticism over his performances for the club this season.
Onana has come under fire following a string of high-profile errors for the Red Devils throughout the campaign.
The Cameroonian international received heavy criticism for a pair of mistakes in the UEFA Europa League quarter-final first leg against Lyon earlier this month.
The former Inter Milan star was labelled “one of the worst goalkeepers in the history of the club” by former Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic.
Reports emerged recently that Onana is among four players Man United could sell this summer.
Asked about Onana’s poor form for Ruben Amorim’s side, Schmeichel told talkSPORT that it is very wrong to single out the 29-year-old alone.
Schmeichel said, “It is been a difficult year, it is been a difficult year for everyone, so singling out anyone, I think that would be very, very wrong.
“Just look where Manchester United are in the Premier League. The players are not having the greatest time.”
Man United are in 14th place on the Premier League table at the moment.
They will face Bournemouth on Sunday in their next Premier League tie.
