Club World Cup: Teams are suffering – PSG manager, Luis Enrique
Paris Saint-Germain manager, Luis Enrique, has spoken out against the kick-off times at the Club World Cup.
Enrique warned that the conditions are not ideal for top-level football in US summer heat.
He was speaking after PSG hammered Atletico Madrid 4-0 in their first group game on Sunday.
Played at noon in Pasadena, Los Angeles, the match kicked off in searing conditions, with temperatures reaching nearly 40°C under the sun and 60% humidity.
Enrique said: “The match was clearly influenced by the temperature.
“The time slot is great for European audiences, but the teams are suffering.
“In terms of play, it’s impossible to perform at a very high level for 90 minutes.”
PSG will play Botafogo in Pasadena again at 6pm local time, while Atletico Madrid travel to Seattle, where the forecast is a far cooler 19°C.
