Club World Cup 2025: 9 teams eliminated from competition
At least nine teams have now been eliminated from the 2025 Club World Cup.
Atletico Madrid have become the biggest name to be sent packing from the tournament in the United States.
The LaLiga side needed a big-goal swing in their last Group B fixture against Botafogo, but could only win 1-0 on Monday.
Antoine Griezmann’s winner came late in the match, with three minutes left.
Atletico exit with four points, after losing 5-0 to Paris Saint-Germain and defeating Seattle Sounders 3-1.
Seattle Sounders are also out, after they lost 2-0 to PSG in their final group fixture.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Achraf Hakimi scored in either half for the Ligue 1 giants.
The other teams that have been eliminated are: Al Ain, Wydad AC, Los Angeles FC, Auckland City, Pachuca, Ulsan HD and Urawa Red Diamonds.
