Ballon d’Or 2025: He lacks team title – Figo on Mbappe’s chances of winning award

Former Real Madrid ace, Luis Figo has suggested some reasons why he believes forward Kylian Mbappe will not win the 2025 Ballon d’Or.

Mbappe enjoyed a mixed debut season with Real Madrid as they failed to win any major trophy despite his personal achievements.

However, Figo, who has won the Ballon d’Or in the past, ruled out Mbappe from competing for the award because of his failure to lead his club to major silverware.

“Things weren’t so great at first, but he’s done well since then,” Figo was quoted by AS as saying when speaking about Mbappe’s Ballon d’Or chances.

“He’s scored a lot of goals and has adapted to playing for Real Madrid, which is totally different from playing for any other team.

“What could rule him out for individual trophies is his lack of major team titles, but we’ll see what happens.

“Mbappe is a name that is always on the lists of the best in the world.”
