2026 WCQ: Rwanda FA apologizes after defeat to Nigeria, offers fans compensation
The Rwanda Football Association, FERWAFA, has publicly apologized to fans following the national team’s 2-0 defeat to Nigeria in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
Recall that the Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on Friday evening.
Victor Osimhen scored a brace in the first-half to give Eric Chelle’s side all three points against the hosts.
However, after the match, FERWAFA turned its attention to fans who were unable to access the stadium despite buying tickets to watch the match.
In a statement released after the match, FERWAFA acknowledged the issues and promised fans of compensation ahead of Rwanda M’s next home game against Lesotho in Tuesday.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to all Rwandans and Amavubi supporters who came to support the National Team in the match against Nigeria,” the statement read.
“We sincerely apologize to those who purchased tickets but were unable to attend the game. As compensation, we would like to inform you that tickets priced at 1,000 RWF and 2,000 RWF will be valid for the next match against Lesotho, scheduled for March 25, 2025.
“Additionally, all other unused ticket categories from today’s game will also remain valid for the upcoming match. Your support remains crucial to our progress in these qualifiers. Thank you.”
Rwanda currently sits in third position in Group C with one point ahead of fourth-placed Nigeria.
