The ₦24.5 million price money announced by the Nigeria Women Football League, NWFL, 2025 Premiership Super 6 tournament is to boost female football in Nigeria.
The move according to the statement made available to DAILY POST on Thursday by the Media Director, of NWFL, Samuel Ahmadu, is geared towards marking a significant boost in financial rewards for participating clubs.

Confirming the prize structure, the league revealed that the champions will receive N10 million maintaining the payout from the previous two seasons.

However, runners-up and third placed teams, according to the statement, will now take home N6 million and N4 million respectively, each reflecting a ₦1 million increase from last year.

In a major step toward inclusivity and support, the bottom three teams will also earn N1.5 million each, up from N500,000 in the previous edition.

The development underscores the league’s growing commitment to financially supporting all clubs involved.

In the statement, NWFL Chairperson Nkechi Obi emphasized that the new prize structure aligns with the league’s broader vision of professionalizing women’s football in Nigeria.

“This is a deliberate step to ensure that all clubs leave the NWFL Premiership Super 6 with something tangible. By increasing the financial rewards, especially for the bottom three, we’re reinforcing our commitment to professionalizing the women’s game and encouraging more investment at club level”, Obi stated

”Beyond financial incentives, the 2025 Super 6 winner, the league said, will earn Nigeria’s sole ticket to the WAFU Zone B qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League, with a potential pathway to the first-ever FIFA Women’s Club World Championship if they reach the final.

As the tournament heads into its final matchday on Saturday, May 17, the title race, they said, remains wide open, with four clubs Bayelsa Queens, reigning champions Edo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, and first-time contenders Remo Stars Ladies still in contention.
