PDP Reacts Over Alleged Assassination Attempt On Anambra Guber Candidate

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned what it described as a brazen assassination attempt on its Anambra State governorship candidate, Chief Jude Ezenwafor, ahead of the November 8 election.

According to the party, gunmen ambushed and opened fire on Ezenwafor in Abuja while he was returning from an appointment, in what it described as a politically motivated attack aimed at truncating his growing popularity.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP alleged that “certain interests, uncomfortable with the rising support for our candidate, are desperate to stop him from contesting the election.”

The statement further claimed that following the failed assassination attempt, anti-democratic forces have now resorted to planning “a series of smear campaigns” against Ezenwafor.

“This attack on the PDP candidate is another sad commentary on the alarming level of insecurity in the country under the overtly insensitive, corrupt and abysmally rudderless All Progressives Congress (APC) administration,” the party said.

While calling for immediate action from security agencies, the PDP charged the Inspector General of Police to launch a thorough investigation and ensure the arrest of the perpetrators and their sponsors.

“The PDP candidate is divinely destined. He enjoys the support of the people and will surely emerge victorious in the election,” the statement added.

The opposition party also urged Ezenwafor to remain resolute in the face of intimidation, insisting that Anambra remains a PDP stronghold and that no level of violence or propaganda will deter its candidate or supporters.

“No amount of attack, smear campaign or propaganda will sway the resolve of our Party, candidate and the people of Anambra State to elect a transparent, humane, people-oriented and result-driven administration on the platform of the PDP,” Ologunagba stated.
