Four A/Ibom, Osun Senators Defect Dump PDP For APC

Four senators, two each from Akwa Ibom and Osun states, have announced their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Their defection letters were read by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio during plenary on Wednesday.

The four senators are Ekong Samson (Akwa Ibom South), Aniekan Bassey (Akwa Ibom North East), Francis Fahahunsi (Osun East) and Oluwole Fadeyi (Osun Central).

All the four senators cited the protracted leadership crises in the PDP and failure of the leadership to resolve them.

The multiple leadership crises, they said, have led to mistrust, numerous litigations, lack of direction and divisions in the opposition party.

The senators further said the resultant instability from the leadership crises was hindering their performance and distracting them from their legislative functions.

According to them, it would be impossible for them to continue rendering quality representation to their constituents if they remained in the PDP.

The four additions to the ruling party has increased the number of APC members in the Senate to 70.
