Ewor Accuses Fubara Of Deception, Demands Disclosure of Emergency Rule Peace Deal

A factional Caretaker Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Dr Nname Ewor, has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of misleading party members and supporters into believing he could wrest political control from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, only to abandon the PDP amid the state’s protracted political crisis.

Addressing journalists in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Ewor alleged that Governor Fubara deceived stakeholders with what he described as propaganda and false assurances, culminating in the governor’s defection from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in December 2025.

Ewor further claimed that rather than pursuing reconciliation and stability following the lifting of emergency rule in the state, the governor had been boasting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would compel members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to pass the state budget and also force Wike to support his re-election bid.

He called on Rivers residents to demand full disclosure of the terms of the peace agreement that preceded the lifting of the emergency rule, stressing that the governor owes the public transparency on all commitments entered into on their behalf.

Ewor Said:“The mandate he is holding was given to him by the Rivers people, and all his actions and inactions affect all those whose mandate he is holding.

“Therefore, it is incumbent on him at this material time to fully disclose to Rivers people all the agreement he entered into in a peace deal brokered by the President of the Federation before the Emergency Rule was lifted.”

Providing background to the crisis, Ewor recalled that Governor Fubara was elected for a four-year term but became embroiled in a dispute with members of the State House of Assembly within his first year in office.

According to him, the disagreement escalated and led to the bombing of the Assembly chambers, an incident that triggered a presidentially brokered peace pact.

He explained that the initial peace agreement, which included an eight-point agenda, eventually collapsed, plunging the state into a prolonged political crisis that culminated in the declaration of a state of emergency in March 2025.

“While this disagreement was on, a lot of us were deceived into believing so many things that were not true,” Ewor said. “Rather than give us the true picture of things, we were led with propaganda and lies, making us believe that the governor would wrestle political control from Wike.”

Ewor noted that during the emergency rule, a second round of peace talks was facilitated by President Tinubu.

Unlike the earlier agreement, he said the terms of the new pact were neither documented nor made known to the people of Rivers State.

He added that the agreement again broke down, leading to Governor Fubara’s eventual defection to the APC.

“As a political party, we challenged the declaration of the state of emergency in the Supreme Court to protect our mandate,” Ewor stated. “Today, the governor has taken our mandate to the All Progressives Congress, which with all intent and purpose is not proper.”

He also used the occasion to address issues surrounding the PDP’s National Elective Convention held in Ibadan in November 2025. Ewor explained that the party’s constitution provides for a national convention every four years to elect new executives and formulate guiding policies.

According to him, Governor Fubara was still a PDP member and serving governor at the time of the convention, and all preparatory activities took place under his watch.

He said the Rivers State delegation to the convention was led by him and participated fully, despite the governor’s absence for reasons he said were unclear.

“It was at the Ibadan Convention that the Rivers State Executive Committee of our dear party was dissolved,” Ewor added.

The allegations come amid ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, with deep divisions within the PDP and heightened scrutiny of the agreements and decisions that followed the emergency rule.
