Ebonyi LG Polls: Ohanaeze Frowns At High Cost Of APC Forms
The Ohanaeze Youth Council, OYC, Tuesday, frowned at the N30m expression of interest form charged by the All Progressives Congress for the chairmanship of Ebonyi local government elections.
Its National President, Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, made the expression in Abakaliki. According to him, the sum would be out of reach of the youth who are interested to run.
Igboayaka called for the pegging of the fees for the forms for chairmanship and councillorship at N150,000 and N50,000 respectively.
He said the current fees would lead to corruption.
According to him, “Reducing the fees will foster healthy competition, which enhances credibility and competence. Paying such an exorbitant amount to secure a local government chairmanship position clearly indicates that young individuals who desire to serve at local government levels might be inclined to embezzle LGA funds if they are elected.”
THE WHISTLER reports that Osborne Umah, 27, son of the Minister of Work, Engr Dave Umahi, has bought the form to contest the chairmanship of Ohaozara LGA under APC.
