APC Is Party To Beat In Abia – Okocha
The All Progressive Congress (APC) is the party to beat in Abia State because of the calibre of members of the party in the state, according to Mr Edward Okocha, a chieftain of the party.
Mr Okocha, who spoke in an exclusive interview with THE WHISTLER, said the APC parades as members, influential and powerful people who have impacted society positively.
“APC in Abia State is very formidable. We have outstanding and committed political officeholders and leaders of the party who are in tune with the various structures they control.
“Leaders like Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Deputy Speaker Ben Kalu, Honourable Minister Nkiru Onyejiocha, etc., are all grassroots politicians and are doing a great job at putting the party in great shape by attracting developmental projects and other empowerment initiatives down to the people in all the wards in Abia State,” he said.
Okocha also dismissed the rumour of a rift within the party in the state, saying, “There are no factions in APC today.
“The party is united and is preparing for its elective congresses in December, after which everyone will understand that the APC in Abia State is really the party to beat.”
On the backlash faced by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu from members of the party after his visit to Governor Alex Otti, Okocha said those behind it are not leaders of the party.
He said, “The perceived backlash came from people of little minds and not from any real leader of the APC. The truth is, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is a man of impeccable character and mien.
“He is never your regular politician. As the father of contemporary politics in Abia State, the onus is always on him to show and lead by good examples. He has outgrown the politics of primitive considerations.
“As a former governor of Abia who performed creditably well, he saw the same passion and drive in the current governor and considered it worthy to encourage and identify with him.”
Speaking further, he said it was within his right as an elder statesman to visit the governor of his state or anyone he so chooses.
“Permit me to place on record that the APC in Abia State never frowned at the visit of Sen. OUK to Gov. Otti. It was nothing more than a courtesy visit.”
