APC Clears All 332 Seats In Imo LG Poll

The All Progressives Congress (APC) won all 27 chairmanship positions and 305 councilorship seats in Saturday’s local government elections across the state.

The chairman of the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC), Charles Ejiogu, announced the results on Sunday at the office of the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission in Owerri.

He said that the election followed the laid down guidelines and procedures.

“We gave room for robust participation. We had meetings with critical stakeholders and all security agencies.

“We observed the primaries of political parties. Elections took place across the 305 wards and 27 LGs. Election took place at 4758 polling units.

“Political parties inspected sensitive materials and I can say that the election was peaceful, fair, transparent and credible.

“The APC won all the chairmanship and councillorship seats.”

However, spokesperson for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, Lancelot Obiaku, described the electoral process as a show of shame.

He claimed that ISIEC did not publish voters’ register at the polling as required by law and did not release the list of candidates for the election.

“It is on record that ISIEC did not release the list of candidates for the election, nor did the commission publish the voter register at the polling units as the law requires.

“There was no communication or meeting whatsoever with political parties, the candidates, and other stakeholders regarding the election.

“Also, just a day before the election, no one knew who the ISIEC electoral officers were and how the ad-hoc staff were selected. The commission never advertised applications for its ad-hoc roles,” said Obiaku.

About 17 political parties participated in the September 21 local government and area council elections.
