Abia Governor Rejects APC, ADC, Says My Re-Election Will Be Under LP

Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti

The Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has rejected the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), two parties leading politicians are defecting to, ahead of the 2027 elections, saying his reelection will be under the platform of the Labour Party (LP).

Otti is the only governor under the platform of the LP. Oyo, Bauchi, Zamfara and Adamawa are the only four states under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The other 31 states are under the control of the APC.

Otti shut down the rumours that he’s likely to join his political associate, Peter Obi, who’s in the ADC or APC because of his non-combative nature of his relationship with President Bola Tinubu, who’s of the APC.

Speaking during his monthly media chat, a forum he regularly uses to brief residents on government policies, projects, and progress, Otti declares the LP was in order.

Speaking on his political future, Otti reaffirmed his commitment to the Labour Party and the mandate freely given to him by the people of Abia State.

“I am in the Labour Party, if there’s an election tomorrow, I will still run on the platform of the Labour Party, although nobody knows tomorrow “, he said .

Addressing transportation, Otti announced an extension of the state’s free electric bus service, which was earlier scheduled to end this month. He disclosed that the initiative will now continue until the end of February.

“The electric buses providing free transportation will continue running until the end of February to further ease the burden on our citizens,” he stated.

On infrastructure and utilities, the Governor revealed that the Aba water project is nearing completion and will soon be commissioned, with similar efforts ongoing in Umuahia.

“Very soon, the Aba water project will be completed and commissioned. Water will begin to flow to many parts of Aba, and the same will happen in Umuahia.

“Our aim is to ensure that water is running in our kitchens just like it used to be in the past,” he said.

Governor Otti also highlighted ongoing investments in the health sector, noting that his administration is upgrading primary healthcare centres, improving hospital facilities, and ensuring better access to quality healthcare services across the state.

The Governor further announced accelerated reconstruction and renovation of public schools across Abia, stressing that education remains a cornerstone of his administration’s development agenda.

“We are rebuilding more schools, not just structures but the entire learning environment, because the future of Abia depends on the quality of education we give our children,” Otti said.

He assured Abians that his administration remains focused on transparent governance, infrastructure renewal, and economic revitalization, urging residents to continue supporting the government’s reform efforts.
