The Zamfara State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, has again urged the Federal Government to, as a matter of urgency, address the persistent security challenges facing the state.

The association pointed out that the unfortunate situation has already impacted the fragile health sector in the state.

Addressing newsmen in Gusau, the Vice chairman of the Association, Dr Mohammed Murtala, begged Zamfara State Government to increase funds for the health sector and improve the working conditions of health workers in the State.

According to him, Zamfara State branch of the NMA is not only concerned about the outbreak of cholera and diphtheria, but is poised to work with the State Government to tackle the diseases towards improving the health indices.

“It is against this backdrop that it is choosing to beam its searchlight on cholera and diphtheria outbreak at its 2024 Scientific conference as part of activities lined up to Mark Physician Week,” he said.

The NMA commended the governor for improving health infrastructures, equipping the general hospitals across the State, as well as the remodeling of Ahmad Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, which is the only tertiary hospital in the state.

The association called on the Zamfara State Government to strengthen the response to the outbreak of diphtheria and cholera and collaborate with the various health unions in the state.
