Zamfara: NAF air strike, troops leave over 60 bandits dead
Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have discovered more than 60 bodies of suspected bandits in Zamfara State following a deadly air strike by the Nigerian Air Force, NAF, and subsequent mop-up operations by ground forces.
The development was disclosed in a post by security analyst Zagazola Makama via his X handle.
According to the report, the discovery was made on Monday afternoon at Matseri in Anka Local Government Area by personnel of 1 Brigade and 8 Division Sector 2. The NAF strikes were part of a coordinated operation targeting over 400 terrorists, including several notorious kingpins, who had converged in Makakkari Forest across Anka and Bukuyum LGAs.
The combined air and ground assault neutralised more than 100 terrorists, with many others fleeing with injuries. The operation was said to have significantly disrupted the bandits’ operational capacity and foiled a planned retaliatory attack after recent clashes with security forces.
Sources said troops also repelled attempts by the bandits to recover corpses from the scene, using heavy artillery fire to stop them.
Clearance and patrol operations are ongoing to prevent the regrouping of the criminal elements.
