You’re wasting your time – Shehu Sani explains why state creation is not possible

Former lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has advised Nigerians clamoring for the creation of new states to desist from what he described as a waste of time and resources.

In a post on his official X handle on Friday, Sani urged citizens to focus instead on peaceful coexistence.

The former lawmaker noted that the process of state creation is constitutionally complex, adding that it’s not something that can be done by a mere presidential proclamation.

“People asking for the creation of new states should stop wasting their time and resources. They should learn to live with each other in peace. Read the constitution to know the complications. It’s not something which the President will just proclaim or announce,” he wrote.

DAILY POST reports that calls for the creation of additional states have increased in recent times.
