Yelwata Attack: 10-month-old baby who survived matchet cut finally discharged from hospital
Ten-month-old Aondosoo Targule Aya, the only surviving child of his family after the Yelewata massacre in Guma LGA, Benue State, has been discharged from the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi.
The hospital disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday by its Ag. Head, Public Relations & Protocol, Tsenzughul Moses.
Aondosor had sustained a machete wound on the left side of his buttocks during the deadly Fulani herdsmen attack, which left over 200 people, mainly children, women, and the elderly dead.
The newborn was officially discharged on Thursday, 17th July 2025, after months of medical care and recovery at the tertiary hospital.
His father, Aya Targule, expressed gratitude to the BSUTH management and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) for the care given to his only surviving child.
Targule also thanked the doctors and nurses for their dedication and tireless efforts to save Aondosoo’s life, despite the loss of his wife and three other children in the incident.
He prayed that God would bless and reward all the hospital staff for their compassion and support during the family’s most difficult moment.
Targule concluded that, since they have no home to return to, his sister will return to the North Bank area with Aondosoo to stay with their aunty, while he returns to the IDP camp at International Market, George Akume Way, Makurdi.
