World Number One Sabalenka Reaches French Open Fourth Round
World number one Aryna Sabalenka recorded a stunning performance to defeat Serbia’s Olga Danilovic 6-2, 6-3 to qualify for the French Open fourth round on Friday.
Sabalenka enjoyed a great start by winning the first five sets in the encounter.
The Belarusian has reached at least the quarter-finals at each of the past nine Grand Slams she has contested, losing just 10 games in her first three matches in Paris.
She will now take on the 16th seed, Amanda Anisimova, in the fourth round.
Sabalenka credited her team for her impressive victory.
She said, “I am super happy with the win; Olga is a fighter, and I knew it would be a fight. She played like a top 10 player; pretty soon, she will be in the top 10.
“When I am on the court, I am a completely different person, very focused and very aggressive. On the court, it is about dreams, and I give my all on court,” she said in her on-court interview.
“Off court, it is important to surround yourself with the right people and have fun with your crew, and that’s what I’m doing.
“I am really grateful to have all of them on my team; we are like family.”
Zheng Qinwen defeated Victoria Mboko 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the fourth round of the tournament.
She has now won nine successive matches at Roland Garros following her run to Olympic gold last year.
Zheng is through to the fourth round in Paris for the second time and will face 19th seed Liudmila Samsonova, who defeated Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska 6-2, 6-3.
Eighth seed Musetti won 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 against unseeded Argentine Mariano Navone in three hours and 25 minutes on Court Suzanne Lenglen.
