Wike has no business in Rivers’ governance – Annkio Briggs

Human rights activist Annkio Briggs on Monday said the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has no role to play in the governance of Rivers State, having completed his tenure as governor.

Briggs stated this while fielding questions on Arise Television’s Morning Show programme.

Briggs described recent political developments in the state, including the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, as illegal and unconstitutional.

“When you look at all of these things, and you look at what is – how we’re going to go about accepting, or should accept that it is very illegal, very unconstitutional.

“I mean, the publication is very clear, so it will be a waste of our time for me to go into that, but we’ve made it very clear through the Constitution, by the Constitution, that what is about to take place in Rivers State is illegal, is not acceptable.

“Declaring the governor suspended the way Senator Akpabio conducted the voice vote is illegal. It is not accepted by law to conduct a voice vote in a thing as critical as the suspension of a governor.

“Nyesom Wike said that he didn’t want a suspension, that he actually wanted the outright removal of the governor of Rivers State. Whichever way you look at it, he has no rights to dream that dream, not to talk of wanting it to be carried out.

“We’ve been told by both the suspended governor, the illegally suspended governor, and the Federal Capital Minister, that they have made peace. And then once we are expected as Rivers people to accept that they are now peaceful in how they are going to conduct their relationship, not Rivers State, because Nyesom Wike has no business being in the governance of Rivers State. He has governed for eight years. He’s the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Therefore, he has no say whatsoever in the governance of Rivers State.”
